Aulus-les-Bains

When I woke up this morning and rolled up the window shutter, I was greeted by a beautiful day. It may well be the last before the cold rolls in, so I decided to go for a hike up the mountain and to the waterfall, Cascade d'Ars. It was tremendous.

Danny joined me. He took his recording equipment along, trying to record the rumble of the waterfall, the steel drum sound of a bridge, the tremors of rocks, and the swooping winds. It was nice to see him fiddle with that, and to hear a bit of what that sounds like.

The climb was quite steep at times, but well manageable. The most treacherous bits were when we were up to our knees in fallen leaves, somewhat clueless as to where to plant our feet. We did a little over 10 kilometers, in just under three hours moving time—five hours altogether, including (recording) breaks.

Cascade d'Ars, up close.

I was hoping I'd get a little bit of clarity on where to take my essay—I was up late last night, mulling over what I had, and how I'd tie it all together. While I took some notes as I sat down somewhere halfway up the mountain, I've not quite sorted it out yet. But, I'm looking forward to sitting back down at my desk and chugging on, tonight.

Tomorrow morning I'm joining another online writing workshop hosted by Short Pieces That Move, which was invigorating the last time I did so, and I'm hopeful that it'll provide me with some useful energy to channel into my writing, here.

Cascade d'Ars.

Last night, I built a significant chunk of the new TRANSCRIPT website. I've been meaning to move it off Framer to reduce costs for a while, and am keen on moving it to a GitHub repository and hosting it for free. Now that we've published our final issue, it's a nice opportunity to create a site that serves as a retrospect of sorts.

Onwards.
