Aulus-les-Bains (VI)

November 18, 2025

3.744 words make up a version of an essay that I'm satisfied with, for now. I've read it, re-read it, and edited it a few times over; I've printed it, re-read it again, marked it up, and improved it. There are a few areas in which I could improve it, still, but I'm letting it rest until I arrive back in Amsterdam.

This was an incredibly fruitful week. I've gone deeper than I ever have on a piece of writing. I've sometimes loathed, but primarily enjoyed the process, and feel like I've learned a fair amount. I'm really very glad I went.

As the building's filled with instruments, here's what I've had coming out of my headphones during the past six days: two albums by Floating Points, Elaenia and Promises; Makaya McCraven's In These Times; Darkside's Psychic; Nicolas Jaar's Pomegranates; Nala Sinephro's Endlessness; Jonny Greenwood's soundtrack for Phantom Thread. (And, in-between all that, Charlie Jermyn's latest radioshow)

Tomorrow most of us travel home, probably spending a morning in Toulouse before catching flights and trains. I hope to see everyone again down the line, perhaps right here in Aulus-les-Bains. It was a great group to be a part of and hang out with.

I'll probably write one more post to recap Camp, but for now: thanks to Ian, María, Danny, Paul, Andy, Rob, Christoph and Jeremy for the good times and great conversations, and to Dianne, Elliott, Laura and Thom for making us all feel taken care of, and at home.

This was part VI in a series of posts on my time at the Camp residency in Aulus-les-Bains. Catch up on previous posts: V, IV, III, II, I.
